With her new movie “Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D” set to hit theaters on July 5th, Katy Perry garnered herself a little added exposure by covering the July/August 2012 of L’Uomo Vogue magazine.

The 27-year-old pop star showed off her unique style in pieces from Philipp Plein, Ports 1961 and Dolce & Gabbana for the Francesco Carrozzini shot spread while dishing about everything from style and music to same sex marriages and Madonna.

On the effect of spending time in Nashville:
“I went to Nashville to officially record a gospel album, but I wound up with artists and composers of various other types of music far more secular, like country and folk. At that time there was also a very lively indie scene. I think there I learned to compose songs that are intended to tell a story, in which the text plays an important role and is not relegated to the role of mere filler. Songs in which to express my personality and my feelings, because that can possibly resonate with the listener. It was there that I made my first acquaintance with the music of great artists like Jonatha Brooke and Patty Griffin, but the most formative of my career as a songwriter was perhaps finally finding myself alone with my guitar, free to create. ”

On her desire to ‘evolve like Madonna’:
“I think Madonna, especially early in his career, when she was laying the foundations of her character, has been able to evolve constantly, managing to give the audience at every appearance a new visual interpretation and concept of herself. She was able to keep up the interest of the people, because you never knew with what she would come out with the next time. And, regularly, has offered a solid and consistent musical product. I hope to do the same, to make sure that people continue to be interested in me and in ten years, to find out, looking back, I have produced songs that will never be forgotten.”

On her opinion about the recent statements by President Obama in favor of marriage between same sex couples:
“I believe in equality. I believe in love without any limits. I come from a family environment where the topic lived with many prejudices, but I have shrugged them off. I hope that one day we will look to this period somewhat ‘as today we look to the period of the civil rights struggles of blacks in America in the ’60s, which is a mixture of shame and how we are happy for the progress made.”

On her look:
“My sense of style is like one of those rings that change color with mood, always evolving. When I get up, I choose my outfit depending on my mood. If it is a ‘mixture of many things’ it is because I feel many different emotions at the same time, to the point where you feel you almost have a split personality.”

On deciding to spend her own money to help finance her movie:
“My frugal business manager [Bernie Gudvi of GSO Business Management], God bless him, was sweating, and I was like, ‘Please trust me.’ That’s kind of been the mantra I’ve said to everyone my whole life: ‘Trust me, I have a vision.’”

On her plans to start her own record label:
“When it does come to fruition, I’m going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success.”

Katy Perry‘s fans were in for a big surprise on Wednesday night when they attended a screening for the pop star’s Paramount documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me.

Clad in a red floral dress with an open back, the “Wide Awake” singer popped up at the theater inside The Grove in Los Angeles just as the lights went down for the viewing to begin.

Once Perry arrived, she told the crowd,”You guys are all so cute, even all the way to the back,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE.

“Little girls rushed the screen as Katy walked around slapping hands and greeting fans,” the source says. “She managed to sign some autographs and pose for a few pictures before trying to disperse the massive crowd that had gathered around her.”

Perry, who said a few more sweet things to her admirers on the mic, “was all smiles and seemed genuinely excited for her young fans to see the film,” the insider says, adding, “The start of the screening was delayed a good 10-15 minutes before Katy sat down in the middle of the screaming crowd for a bit.”

Katy Perry brought her patriotic sprit to New York’s Fleet Week, lighting up Pier 9 in Brooklyn for a special concert for troops. Members of the sea services stepped off their ships to enjoy a rousing show, with Perry sparkling in an American flag-style dress.

When MTV News caught up with Perry moments before she took the stage at the waterfront Pepsi Fleet Week Katy Perry “Part of Me” Concert, she said she was thrilled to put on a show in their honor: “I think if anyone deserves a party, I think it’s probably the people in service. They are the ones that are actually deployed and protecting us from all the bad guys, and they deserve to celebrate, and they deserve to be celebrated,” she said. “I’ve always heard about Fleet Week in New York; I’ve never been a part of it. It’s really exciting to see a lot of seamen in white, but they all look gorgeous. It’s kind of vintage-y feeling and really patriotic, and I love a theme. So, it’s really cool to be a part of this and be entertaining for them. I think that it’s appropriate to go out there in a little dress, and they’re all in uniform.”

Perry performed her hit songs “Teenage Dream,”Part of Me,” and her newest single “Wide Awake,” which was written for her upcoming 3-D movie, “Katy Perry: Part of Me.”

Yet, the highlight of the night was when Perry chose one lucky U.S. Marine from the crowd to join her onstage to recreate the iconic WWII photo of a sailor’s kiss in Times Square. A 20-year-old Marine was more than happy to oblige, planting a big kiss on the pop star in front of a screaming crowd.

“I’m sure that they all have cabin fever, so I’m going to bring the one that has the most cabin fever onstage,” Perry said. “I have cabin fever, for crying out loud!”

Perry’s new flick, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” hits theatres July 5.

Though she launched six (yes, six) number-one hits off her CD, Teenage Dream, pop phenom Katy Perry has faced a number of personal struggles in the last year or so, including a high-profile divorce from her husband, Russell Brand.

The divorce is highlighted in her new 3-D documentary, Part of Me, out July 5; and as the 27-year-old revealed on ELLEN, the decision to include her personal highs and lows was “important.”

What else did she reveal?

“I think sometimes people think that we’re perfect, and we know we’re not perfect, at all,” she said, on the episode airing Tuesday. “I think it’s important [to] start breaking down the idea that, to achieve your dream, you always have to be perfect, or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world.

“That’s why I decided to put everything into the film, in the most tasteful way,” she added. “But mostly it’s about how I go there and the ride along the way — which can be bumpy. But, mostly, it was extremely fun.”

Since her marriage ended at the end of 2011, Katy — who has reportedly split from her boyfriend, Ryan Gosling lookalike Robert Ackroyd — has been pretty vocal about what went down — mostly through song, that is. Two of her singles — ‘Part of Me’ and her latest song, ‘Wide Awake’ — have lyrics that appear to be about her one-year marriage to the British funnyman.

Russell himself talked about his split from Katy in a recent interview with Ellen, in which he said, “I love her as a human being.”

“Sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was happy to be married with her,” he added.

Katy Perry is back on the market — again.

The 27-year-old singer has split from Florence + the Machine guitarist, Robert Ackroyd. The pair started dating about a month ago when they were photographed kissing at Coachella Music Festival.

“It wasn’t that serious,” a source tells Us Weekly of Perry‘s relationship with Ackroyd. “It’s not a nasty thing and they are still talking, but Katy told him to do his thing and they’ll talk soon.”

“No hard feelings,” another source explains to Us. “She’s really busy and so is he.”

Perry still appears to be coping with her divorce from Russell Brand, 36. Sunday night at the Billboard Music Awards, the “Part of Me” singer seemed to address their divorce after 14-months of marriage during a performance of her new song, “Wide Awake.”

“I’m wide awake. I was in the dark, I was falling hard with an open heart,” she sings. “How did I read the stars so wrong. I was dreaming for so long. I wish I knew then what I know now. I wouldn’t dive in, I wouldn’t bow down.”

But, Perry says (through song) that she’s moved on.

“Not losing any sleep, I picked up every piece and landed on my feet,” the song continues. “Need nothing to complete myself. I am born again, out of the lion’s den. I don’t have to pretend. The story’s over now, the end.”

And Perry even brought a hot date to the awards — her 91-year-old grandmother! “My date to tonight’s Billboard Music Awards is hotter than the Las Vegas weather,” she tweeted. “Smokin’!”

She’s been doing her best to boost interest in her summer 3D movie, and Katy Perry amped up promotions by landing the cover of the May 2012 issue of Teen Vogue magazine.

The 27-year-old “Firework” singer looked colorful in a wild blue coif along with a Zac Posen gown, CC Skye earrings, Atelier Swarovski by Zaldy bracelets and Sermoneta Gloves gloves as she posed for the Sebastian Kim shot spread.

On whether she still gets excited over strong response to her music:
“Of course! I’m not like, ‘Ugh, number one again.’ It’s funny, though—my label gets so caught up in the statistics, just because they’re excited. But for me, I don’t need to grind it into anyone’s head that I’m popular. If you like my music, great, and if you don’t, whatever. I’m going to keep making it either way. This does feel a bit like the record that never ends. But I wanted to release The Complete Confection for the hard-core fan who wants everything: three new songs, the remixes, and it’s all in a cute little package.”

On deciding to make a movie:
“I wanted to document the tour, because when we started to book these really big venues, I felt like I was going all in. And I figured that by the end of it I’d be bankrupt or else I’d look like the smartest music businesswoman of my age, and I thought either outcome would be interesting. More than that, though, I wanted to show people this parade that surrounds me … I wanted them to see the engine. I think sometimes they look at me and wonder, How is it possible that she continues to have this kind of success? Why are the stars so aligned for her? But, while that is a factor, it’s not the whole story. I also work my tail off! And, of course, I wanted people to be able to experience the tour and all the joy it brought, which is why we shot it in 3-D. And this is amazing 3-D. It’s definitely not just a marketing tool.”

On whether she was inspired by other pop documentaries:
“A little. Madonna is everything to me, and that movie is amazing because it caught her at a time when she was a bit more vulnerable. I wanted to do that too, to capture a snapshot of who I am now so that I can remind myself what I’ve lost if I ever do become totally jaded. [Laughs]”

On being a little more glamorous than the average singer-songwriter:
“I don’t like to take fashion too seriously. I love it, and I am so grateful when big brands want to associate with me, but mostly I just want to take chances and have fun and truly live. And sometimes that means wearing some ridiculous, cat-inspired outfit rather than whatever happens to be in this season.”

On whether she sees herself getting tired of being famous:
“I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do. It’s quite a delicate creature— it’s a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. I still want to be as approachable and relatable as possible—when I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, “Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let’s just hang out and have a good time.” But really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago. If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll only end up completely confused.”

Since first announcing she’d be starring in her own 3-D concert movie, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” Katy Perry has kept fans in the loop about the film. In keeping with that routine, she’s just revealed the release date for the summer flick.

“My concert documentary is coming out Fourth of July weekend. Go and see it and be a firework!” she told E! News at the Kids’ Choice Awards. The film was directed by Magical Elves Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also served as producers on Justin Bieber’s highly successful “Never Say Never” concert movie.

“The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent church. I started singing and I never really had another plan,” she said in a TV spot that began airing over the weekend, which is also full of vintage, behind-the-scenes footage of the singer. After kicking it old-school, a montage of her music videos leads up to colorful concert footage of the singer from her California Dreams Tour.

“If you have a dream, you have to go on a journey to fulfill that dream,” she says in the clip. The tease closes out with Perry dressed up as her “T.G.I.F.” alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry.

“This film, you’re going to see it from my best friend/ buddy perspective, you’re going to see exactly what I mean and feel and think about everything,” Perry recently told MTV News. “Listen, I’ve [worked on] most of this film for a very long time and the word ‘cheap’ was not in the vocabulary,” she said. “But, hello, it’s 3-D. You’re going to get hit with a lot of sh–.” To add to the excitement for the movie, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were recently spotted shooting something that will appear in the film.

“That tour was so life-changing to me. I learned so much, I went through so much along the way,” Perry said. “I’m not necessarily trying to prove anything to anyone, but not only will people really hands-down know me after they see this film, but you’ll see me as the Dorothy wearing the red ruby slipper, and at the end of it all I’m the [Wizard of] Oz as well.”

Harvey Weinstein really wants to get into the Katy Perry business. During a pre-Oscar party at Soho House in Los Angeles, Weinstein was talking to Perry about co-starring in new drama about British opera singer and reality television star, Paul Potts.

“I was talking to Katy about a new project, a possible dramatic role in the Paul Potts movie, which will be shooting in England soon,” Weinstein told Page Six. “We’d really like someone like Katy or Adele to play the role of Potts’ wife, and Katy seemed genuinely interested.”

What makes that sorta funny? Potts’s real-life wife, Julie-Ann, isn’t a singer at all.

As for Paul Potts himself, if the names sounds familiar-ish, perhaps that’s because you are one of the 89 million YouTube users who watched the former mobile phone salesman sing “Nessun Dorma” on “Britain’s Got Talent.” Potts went on to win the reality competition, which launched him to international fame.

This isn’t the first time Weinstein has courted Perry for something. Last year, Weinstein said he wanted Perry to play Marilyn Monroe in a stage version of “My Week With Marilyn.” He also used her song, “The One That Got Away,” during marketing for “Marilyn.” Guy really loves “Teenage Dream,” apparently. (Who doesn’t, but still.)

Ever since its premiere at the 54th Grammy Awards, folks have speculated long and hard about Katy Perry‘s “Part Of Me,” and whether its various lyrical barbs — “You can keep the diamond ring, it don’t mean nothing anyway/ In fact, you can keep everything — except for me,” in particular — were aimed at her ex-husband, Russell Brand.

It would seem to make sense … after all, Perry‘s no stranger to the occasional(ly brutal) kiss-off (check the Teenage Dream track “Circle The Drain” for proof), but there’s just one tiny problem: “Part Of Me” first surfaced in 2010, two months after Perry and Brand got married in India.

And while Katy has yet to speak publically about the pair’s split, she was definitely looking to set the record straight about her latest chart-topping hit … which most certainly isn’t about Brand, no matter what you might think.

“I wrote it two years ago, which is funny because everybody is like ‘God, it sounds so current,’ ” she told MTV News recently in Los Angeles. “And some people that I work with were like ‘You should just say you wrote it a couple of weeks ago.’ I’m like ‘I’m not a d—, I’m going to tell the truth.’ I wrote it two years ago when I was writing and recording Teenage Dream, [but] it didn’t feel right on the record. I would’ve had to take out one of my other songs that [made the album] a nice, complete package.”

And despite her denials, Perry realizes that some folks will just keep on assuming “Part Of Me” is a direct swipe at Brand … and she really can’t blame them: After all, even she’ll admit that there’s a whole lot about the song that seems practically preordained.

“I always planned to put it out in the spring of this year, to possibly perform it at a big [awards show], but sometimes I’m like ‘Am I living in ‘The Truman Show?’ … what’s going on?’ ” she laughed. “Because I sit down and I write all these songs at once, all these emotions and feelings and thoughts, and then, like, it just feels like sometimes I’m caught in this movie where my life is paralleling my music! It seems very serendipitous, but, as un-fun as it sounds, I prepare everything. I’m overly prepared and kind of a control freak in the best of ways.”
