It’s sometimes amazing to keep in mind the ages of pop stars. Taylor Swift turns 20 this weekend, and both Britney Spears and BeyoncĂ© are only 28. Considering how much these women have accomplished, you would think they would each have a few more years behind them, but they’ve all managed to cram heaping armloads of success into just a few short years. Of course, most of them have been working at being performers since a very young age, and they’ve each introduced themselves to the world during their teen years.
Katy Perry is only 25, but she already has a platinum album, several hit singles, collaborations with the likes of Joe Perry and Rivers Cuomo and a hotly-anticipated album on tap for 2010. But though 2008′s One of the Boys should be treated like a debut, she has actually been kicking around the music industry since 2001, when she recorded a self-titled Christian music album under her birth name Katy Hudson. From there, she toyed with country music and recorded an album with Alanis Morissette collaborator Glen Ballard that was never released. She finally teamed up with the Matrix to produce One of the Boys, and the rest is pop history.
Perry probably has plenty of stuff in storage from her early career, and she put up a photo of one of her old headshots on Twitter. “Where are you Katy Hudson?” she wrote. “This was my first 8X10, probably around 11 years old. Ah, memory lane.” Perry does look extremely young in the photo, but still has that wild look in her eyes that suggested all of the madness that she has delivered since.
